Event review service

As networkers ourselves, we know that there is a whole myriad of events.

There are breakfasts, dinners, speed networking and exhibitions.  There’s the formal, informal and ones offering a one seat policy.  There are boozy ones, there are industry specific ones, some are free to attend and others where you need to commit a large chunk of money every year.

So which is right for you?

From our knowledge there has never been a place to find out about events. “Eventbrite” and “Meet Up” are great places to find out about events, but there’s nothing to provide independent reviews.

Shouldn’t there be a place giving pointers of what to expect, format, profiles of delegates etc?

We do, so we created it. BSO events aren’t for everyone, never will be, and we don’t want them to be. Others have particular purposes, targeted at different markets. So why not create a place to share these experiences.
We’re already reviewing every event we attend, but if you run an event and would like review, why not ask us to attend. All reviews are independent and from a neutral standpoint.

If you’d like us to attend, simply submit a request and we’ll do our best to attend. Let’s face it, a bit of free advertising can’t do any harm can it.

Alternatively if there’s an event coming up that we’ve not reviewed and you’d like us to go to so you know what it’s like – let us know, and go all secret squirrel like.

Networking Reviews

Gone Fishing 4 Business

When: Fortnightly on Fridays, 7.30 – 9am

Where: Manor Farm Centre, Walsall

Cost:  £12

Review Date: 1st November 2019

No’s: Circa 20-30

Format: Sit down, 60 seconds presentation style, with open networking before.

Overview:

Informal isn’t the word.  Run excellently by Chris Towe for over 10 years you will find that there are a number of characters in the room.  No pressure on timings for 60 seconds, you will find that there is definitely a jovial atmosphere, but good connections are built, and have been developed over time.

Delegates:

Small business owners in the main.

Staffs Business Club

When: Fortnightly on Tuesdays 8-10am

Where: Bridgehouse Hotel, Penkridge

Cost: £10 on the door, monthly D/D available

Review Date: 5th November 2019

No’s: Circa 25-30

Format: Sit down, 60 seconds presentation style, with open networking before.

Overview:

If you like the format of a sit-down, 60 second style presentation style networking meeting, but with a light hearted approach, the Staffs Business Club could be the place for you.  Attracting mainly from the extended Staffordshire area, the event is well run, generally well attended and has a pulse.  It’s clear that many have used SBC to develop relationships over the years, but it is not “clicky”.  On a side note, the breakfast is the best I have encountered at any networking event.

Delegates:

Mostly small business owners across most sectors – a good mix.  Some attend every fortnight, others drop in and out sporadically.

  • Owner operators – general mix of industries
  • BDM’s – from corporates to SMEs no real trend of industries.
  • Small Business Owners – there are always a few businesses with 2-20 staff who are still responsible for business development/building connections.

Some people attend most brummies events (as I do), but there are always a high percentage of new people in the room.
